Winter 2012
Sparkling Jewelry Trends By Sharon Naylor

Lady-like Looks

Lauren Parker, editor of Accessories magazine, says that ladylike stud and button earrings are a top trend, since scarves will be in during spring, and longer, dangling earrings would get caught in them. The iconic style of Jackie Onassis is also driving the popularity of pearl jewelry. Joanie Perales of FairyTale Jewelry says, “Freshwater cultured pears are a classic staple in the jewelry industry. Their ability to be worn on a day-to-day basis or on special occasions makes them an extremely diverse organic gem. Dressed up or dressed down, pearl jewelry adds a sense of elegance and style for young fashionistas.”

Look for inexpensive freshwater pearls that come in unique shapes, sizes and colors, such as pinks and grays. Donna Mori-Campbell of Leimomi Pearls says, “The top-sellers in ladylike pearls include lots of color such as bronzes and especially a blue mauve pearl, and also unique shapes such as the ‘coin pearl’ that looks like a penny, and ‘shell pearls’ in mauve, black, pink, purple and mauve.” These feminine pearls may be in three-strand necklaces for the layered look, part of a wrap bracelet, or a single touch to a bracelet or earrings.”

Tribal

Tribal trends in jewelry styles are also strong now. The trend extends to the ultra-popular African-inspired tribal pieces such as statement pendants from the ‘Untamed’ collection at Melvin that feature tiger head and ram icons in bright yellow gold tones as statement necklaces and rings. Native American pieces are also in.
