Fall 2012
Best Sellers in St. Louis, MO

“The first time I ever saw St. Louis, I could have bought it for six million dollars, and it was the mistake of my life that I did not do it.”—From “Life on the Mississippi” by Mark Twain, 1883

St. Louis is known as the Gateway to the West. The city was founded in 1764 by Pierre Laclede Liguest and his then teen-aged stepson, Auguste Chouteau. They named the fur-trading post that they founded on the banks of the Mississippi River, after France’s King Louis IX.

Fast-forward almost 250 years to today’s St. Louis. About 318,000 people live here, in neighborhoods such as Soulard, Lafayette Square, Dogtown, the Central West End, Benton Park and The Hill, to name a few. And while passions do run high for the St. Louis Cardinals, Rams and Blues, the same can be said for shopping experiences in this fun city. Even better, shoppers won’t need anywhere near $6 million to browse the city’s many gift shops and indulge.
