Traverse City — When it comes to women’s clothing, Traverse City entrepreneur Sandy Van Dyke says female baby boomers are a forgotten market.

“Everything is designed for juniors,” said Van Dyke, who opened her comfortable clothing shop, The Little Black Dress & Necessities, last year. “At our store, the goal is to take people from the beach to black tie. We help women try new things and walk out of here feeling like a million bucks.”

Tucked along Cass Street between the Omelette Shoppe and Hannah’s Bistro Bar, The Little Black Dress & Necessities features women’s clothing and jewelry.

“I’ve always loved this building,” said Van Dyke, who moved with her husband Dave and three children to Traverse City in 1995. “When we moved in all we had to do was add fixtures and some art. I love the downtown area. We’re so lucky to have a vibrant downtown with local owners who are committed to the community.”
