Three Questions: They enjoy being the life of a party
Jeff and Carolyne Curley’s life can be considered one big party.
The husband and wife own Streamers Party and Gift Store in Caldwell. In addition to balloons, party favors, cups, plates and matching accessories, the store also rents party supplies such as tables, chairs, glassware, linens of every color, hot dog carts and dance floors. They also help customers create invitations for all types of events.
Jeff Curley spoke to The Star-Ledger about his party supply business.
How has the slumping economy affected the party supply business? “We’re happy right now with the amount of business we see each week. People always have yearly birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and showers, no matter what the economic conditions.”
“We also started a ‘Sunshine Sidewalk Sale.’ We put sale tables outside the store — 99 cents for any item on the table. That’s been very popular. People always like a bargain and it helps us reduce our inventory, so we can fit more items in the store and in storage.”
What made you go into the party supply business? “My wife and I had a few things happen to us in a short period of time. I met a friend in the Foodtown parking lot who was not looking forward to going all the way over to Party City to pick up balloons.”
