A sweet piece of ComfortBy Jeanna GoodrichMySanAntonio.com

If home is where the heart is, these ladies’ hearts are made of chocolate.

But not just any chocolate: Peggy Cloar and Alison Turner, a mother and daughter from Comfort, are the creators of High Street Chocolate, an all-natural, 70 percent cocoa—and surprisingly healthy—treat.

Why chocolate? “We just love it,” Cloar said.

And who doesn’t? Arguably, this mother and daughter are living every woman’s fantasy.

“We eat chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Turner said.

Duly so, as Cloar and Turner create chocolate right in their own backyard. A metal building, set off from a cozy Comfort home, hides a manufacturing process that rockets High Street Chocolate above the competition.

“We set out to make the best chocolate to be made,” Peggy said. “We tweaked (the recipe), we tasted all the chocolates that were out there to pick our finest ingredients. We jumped through hoops to get it just right.”

In the pursuit of the perfect chocolate bar, these two had to tackle their confectionary obstacles together.

“It took us a year, and we ate some really bad chocolate,” Cloar said.

“Some of the stuff we ate that they sell at grocery stores was so bad that it just sat there for a while,” Turner added. “I think Mom made me eat some of it just to get it out of the house.”

Growing up, chocolate was something Cloar had “always fed Alison,” because of its health benefits.

“It’s got 28,000 units of goodness,” Cloar said, referring to cocoa’s high antioxidant content in its raw form. High Street Chocolate uses 14,000 units, twice as much as the alkaline chocolate sold in grocery stores.
