Dozens of downtown shops prepare for holiday eventBy Joe GiesslerLancasterEagleGazette.com

Lancaster — Downtown will resemble the North Pole on Saturday as part of the Shop, Eat and Be Merry holiday event.

Dozens of businesses and shops will have special hours, holiday deals and giveaways throughout the day.

Mainstreet Lancaster Director Karen Rotkis said residents will have the opportunity to enjoy the holidays, complete some shopping and help local businesses.

“I think people are understanding the benefits of shopping local,” Rotkis said. “They understand how it benefits our entire community.”

Some of the activities include cookie decorating at Four Reasons, free pictures with Santa Claus at Promotions by Design, horse and carriage rides and the opportunity to “transform” your child into an elf at Gregory Allen Hair Design.

Many of the activities will take place from noon to 4 p.m., but individual business hours may vary. For a full list of events and activities or to download a walking map, go to www.mainstreet lancaster.com.

Rotkis encouraged people to do some of their Christmas shopping in downtown stores.
