Manatee County’s galleries and gift shops offer fun gift ideas for the holidays
With Christmas just three weeks away, you may already be scouring the department stores for that perfect gift. But if you’re looking for something extra special or one-of-a-kind, it probably won’t be found at the big box stores. Instead, it might be sitting on the shelf of a local art gallery or gift shop.
The Sun Coast is a paradise full of art districts such as the Village of the Arts and tucked-away boutiques that stock not just paintings and sculptures, but jewelry, toys, creative gifts for guys and items that moms would love.
If the Herald can find fun gift ideas at four area shops, then just think of the treasures at other local arts-based stores.
Here’s some of the unique gifts we found during a shopping venture last week:
South Florida Museum, 201 10th St. W., Bradenton
Fans of Snooty, the world’s oldest living manatee in captivity — who resides here, can find a multitude of Snooty gifts in the museum’s gift shop. Dress your little one in a Snooty outfit with little Snooties swimming on it for $16.99. Looking for a fun tie for your hubby?
The museum has Snooty ties in blue or yellow for $34.99. Snooty PJs are available, too. While we were there, a couple of local residents were seeking a Snooty necklace as a holiday gift for someone special. They found just what they were looking for to the tune of $7.99.
The museum also has large stuffed manatees, the biggest selling for $169. There are also Snooty Christmas ornaments that are no higher than $12.99.
