Tea and Honey finds sweet 2nd locationBy James ComtoisCrainsNewYork.com

Business sure has been sweet for the new tea and honey shop in Grand Central. After just one year on the scene, The Tea and Honey Store has decided to open its second outpost in the city.

The shop’s owner has signed a seven-year lease for a 650-square-foot ground-floor space at 828 Lexington Ave., at East 64th Street. Although the asking rent wasn’t disclosed, sources say the rent for the previous tenant was nearly $185 a square foot.

The lease was arranged directly between Alan Ceppos, co-owner of The Sarut Group, which owns the U.S. distribution for Pylones and owns The Tea and Honey Store, and landlord Mt. Pleasant. Since there was already a Pylones—a store that sells inexpensive, cool and quirky gift items—in the building, there were no brokers involved in the deal.

“We have our store in Grand Central Terminal doing very well, so based on what we felt were customer requests, we’re opening a second location,” said Mr. Ceppos. He added that he chose the Lexington Avenue location because he already has the Pylones store in the building and knows it’s a good neighborhood. For the record, he also has a Pylones store in Grand Central and is about to open his sixth Manhattan outpost in Macy’s Cellar.

Tea and Honey’s new location—like several buildings on the block—has been designated as a landmark. The shop is looking at an early July opening.
