Gift and Thrift puts sales in vendors’ hands
There’s a new market in town for vendors to sell their wares without having to open an entire standalone shop.
Gift and Thrift opened this month at 209 S. Bahnson Ave. Peggy Taylor, who owns the store with her husband, Wayne, described the shop as more than an antique store. They have vendors selling a variety of things from artwork to antiques and handmade cards.
With about 17 vendors, Taylor has about 12 spots left. The nice thing for the vendors is that after displaying the items, Taylor will take care of the sales.
The concept isn’t new in Sioux Falls. The Benson’s Flea Market operates under a similar concept, though at Gift and Thrift people have the benefit of displaying their goods daily. I think Proud Panda Antique Mall also rented to vendors, though that was specific to antiques. I’m sure other antique shops in the area use the same concept.
It’s a nice way of varying the store’s goods. That’s one reason Taylor, who is an avid secondhand shopper herself, said she wanted to open the shop.
