The Gift Box owner supports home vendorsBy Jill MoonTheTelegraph.com

Alton – Creative retailer Andrea Abbott Hilligoss is back in business with The Gift Box.

More than two years ago, Abbott Hilligoss closed A & A Beads on Broadway in Alton, which she owned for 10 years, and now she is expanding her 3-month-old shop The Gift Box at 302 E. Broadway to take over the space of the former A & A Beads. For the last year, an antique store filled the space.

The Gift Box’s own Fresh Market Beads vendor Sheri Hill manages The Gift Box, which opened March 9. Abbott Hilligoss and Hill, both of Godfrey, keep the store filled with local vendors’ wares.

“Our main goal is to keep it local and stop them from going across that bridge,” Abbot Hilligoss said in the midst of cleaning the space adjacent to The Gift Box.

The Gift Box’s expansion will be complete by July 1. Abbott Hilligoss expects to accommodate 100 to 150 vendors when the expansion is finished. The Gift Box started with 30 vendors and now has 50. It will have 75 when it opens with the expansion.
