Abode Opens in South Wedge With Fresh Take on Décor
Rochester, NY – Ariane Krenichyn and Amanda DeFisher decided over mimosas to go into business together.
“We both like to go to weird barn sales in the country, thrift stores, estate sales,” says Krenichyn, 32. “We were at brunch one day, and at the time we lived in 800-square-foot apartments filled with all these awesome things we were finding. Amanda said, ‘We should open a store.’ Ten months later we had one.”
They opened Abode in April at 289 Gregory St. in the South Wedge neighborhood, offering a mix of home furnishings and décor from local, national and vintage designers. Specializing in midcentury modern, Abode features barware, candles and handcrafted, sustainable furniture from Rochester-based design and manufacturing group Staach. It also sells couches, tables and other housewares — including work from six consignment artists selling items such as macrame planters and embroidered cards.
