Rough Around the Edges: New Local Shop Offers Primitives and Home Decor
Piketon, OH – In mid-August, two local women turned a hobby into a business venture, opening Rough Around the Edges, a primitive home décor shop located near Zahn’s Corner.
“We sell handmade primitive crafts in our shop, and we try to make sure that ninety percent of our stock is handcrafted,” said Shelly Smith, of Waverly. “ My partner, Peggy Ward, and I started making primitives as more of a hobby. Until we had the shop, I didn’t realize that we could make things this fast.”
At first Smith and Ward began crafting unique creations at home, occasionally posting photographs of their designs on Facebook. After a while, friends began placing orders and the duo decided to take a shot at opening their own shop.
