Milton, DE – To hear Amy and Patrick Conroy tell it, their small businesses blossomed from seeds of thought to actual storefronts almost by accident.

“We were walking by here and our landlord, Richard Reed, had the door open,” Patrick Conroy said this week in his store, P.C. Rods, a fishing supplies and rod repair store in downtown Milton.

His wife, Amy, runs the gift shop Wine Knot next door. The two storefronts are connected by an open doorframe. For both Conroys, opening the stores was their first dabble in entrepreneurship after years working behind a Lewes bar.
