New Penny and Braid Combination Rugs; Another new and innovative rug design from Homespice Decor

March 2007 – Homespice Decor has introduced its second new and innovative rug design for 2007. The new Penny and Braid Combination rugs feature two of Homespice Decor’s most popular rug designs, the penny rug and round braided rug, incorporated into a single, very unique floor covering. This innovative design is certain to capture the attention of the rug industry and consumers alike.

The center of the new combination rug features a round penny rug design. Penny rugs are a style that became popular in the 1800s, when Victorian women gathered scraps of wool from old clothes or hats and used coins as circular templates to create designs for mats and rugs. Sometimes a penny was stitched under one of the circles to weigh it down and make it lie flat – hence the name! The center, Penny Rug motif of Homespice Decor’s new combination rug, is accented by numerous rows of traditional cotton braids that complement the design and create a dramatic border.

“The new Penny and Braid Combination Rug has been well received among buyers and is finding itself to be used for more than just its ordinary purpose,” says Junior Gupta, president of Homespice Decor. “Because of the interesting penny rug design, many consumers are being very creative and using the new rug as a table centerpiece or wall hanging.”

With this new design, Homespice Decor continues to be an innovator in the rug industry. “Our goal is to always be on the cutting edge, bringing new and innovative products to the market,” says Gupta. “In January, we introduced the extremely popular SuperNova Braided Rug, which is a totally new and unique look in the braided rug industry. It’s created with a circular pattern at the rug’s center, and rows of braids spiraling from the center to the edge – mimicking an artistic impression of a supernova. Following the success of that rug, we wanted something equally as unique and decided to combine the penny rug with the braid. This look has never been done in the rug industry, and although there were some challenges, the result has captured what our customers love – the beauty of a new look, reflecting American tradition.”

Flower Pot, 3′ Round, MSRP $149 This flowery penny design of pink and white tulips with white daisies and soft burgundy striped pansies is surrounded by a braided blend of deep browns, burgundy, dark and olive greens, gold and cream.

Saltbox House, 3′ Round, MSRP $149 Capturing the essence of the 18th century when penny rugs were first used, this picturesque penny design of a Colonial home with a white picket fence, blossoms and trees is surrounded by a braided blend of deep browns, olive greens, soft gold and pale cream.
