Jumping Jack Press Wins Third Consecutive “Best Pop-Up” Book Moonbeam Award

Mason – Jumping Jack Press, the pop-up book imprint from Up With Paper, has been honored with its third consecutive Moonbeam Children’s Book Award in the Best Pop-Up/Cut-Out Book category. The company’s Kirby’s Derby title received the Gold Moonbeam Award for the Best Pop-Up or Cut-Out Book published in 2009.

The juried Moonbeam Awards honor the year’s best children’s books, authors, and illustrators. More than 1000 book entries for the Awards were received from authors and publishers in the US and around the world.

Jumping Jack Press has released three seasonal titles, three everyday titles, and a baby memory book since its formation in 2007 as the pop-up book imprint for Up With Paper, the world’s largest pop-up greeting card company.

Kirby’s Derby, authored by George White, illustrated by Jason O’Malley, and engineered by Bruce Foster, features an amazing soap box derby, in which animals drive their dream cars, each shaped like their favorite food. The fun, fanciful artwork and unique combinations of pop-ups and unexpected surprises make it an enjoyable read, again and again, as Kirby the dog in his bone-shaped car races to the finish against a monkey in a banana car, a rabbit in a carrot car, and many more.

The 2009 Gold Moonbeam Award for Best Pop-Up/Cut-Out book follows the Silver Award in the same category in 2008 for the company’s Splish Splash, Dog Bash. Jumping Jack Press won the very first Gold Moonbeam Award in this category in 2007 with Halloween at the Zoo. All three books feature the same creative team, under the direction of Creative Director Monika Brandrup, and remain in print from Jumping Jack Press.

Originally founded as PopShots, Inc., in 1978, Up With Paper has been recognized for design excellence more than 55 times with the International Greeting Card Association’s highest honor, the “LOUIE” award, including the “Card of the Year” LOUIE Award in 2005 for the company’s first Tres Panache design. Up With Paper’s Treasures, Panoramics and Turning Points lines of pop-up greeting cards, as well as the company’s Tres Panache Imprintables, Trinkets and Tres Petites gift enclosures, Pop-Up Notepads, Travel Globes, and Pop-Up Snow Globe Greetings are available in thousands of specialty retail outlets throughout the United States and around the world, and may be seen on the company’s website at www.upwithpaper.com.
