Harry Barker to Sponsor Canines for Veterans with Exclusive New Product Line

Harry Barker, the eco-friendly pet product company, is sponsoring a nationwide campaign this Fall for Canines for Veterans, a non-profit, national program that teaches military prisoners to train service dogs for veterans with disabilities. Harry Barker has designed a line of products called Canines for Veterans, and a portion of the products’ proceeds will be donated to the organization.

Canines for Veterans (CaninesForVeterans.org) is a one-of-a-kind program based on a “Triple Win” concept: rescuing shelter dogs, rehabilitating military prisoners and revitalizing wounded veterans. The rescued shelter dogs are given a purpose by being trained to serve wounded veterans. The dogs enhance the military inmates’ rehabilitation by giving them the responsibility to train the rescued pups to become service dogs. After 11 months of training, the service dogs are able to perform 70 commands, including the ability to retrieve and carry objects and providing balance and stability for an amputee or someone who has lost mobility. Most importantly, the service dogs help veterans make the transition back to independence by becoming a source of love and companionship for the veterans, many of whom come home with serious physical and mental injuries.

The products will be available in stores in October 2011.
