“The Greatest Cards on Earth” 24th Annual LOUIE Awards Call for Entries and Theme Announced

The Greeting Card Association (GCA) is pleased to announce the theme for the 2011 LOUIE Awards: “The Greatest Cards on Earth!” In addition, as of Tuesday, November 1st, 2011, the Call for Entries is officially open. Entries in all categories for the 24th Annual Awards can be submitted online at www.greetingcard.org.

Inspired by the exciting and classic circuses popular in the 1920’s and 1930’s, this year’s theme concept was designed by Katy Greenspan, Creative Director at Cardstore.com and this year’s Awards Chair. “The theme evokes nostalgia, yet communicates the new and modern face of the LOUIEs,” said Greenspan. “We also plan to carry a ‘fancy circus’ theme to the LOUIE gala event, the most visible and exciting portion of the Awards program by making it fun and interactive for the attendees while reinforcing the significance of what it means within the industry to be nominated for or win a LOUIE. Get ready for a fun-filled evening under the big top!”

The LOUIE Awards theme will carry through all of the visual elements of the Awards, from the Call for Entries, which is now posted to the GCA website, to the printed Call which will be mailed shortly, to the congratulatory posters sent to all nominees to use in their booths at the National Stationery Show (NSS) to tout their nominated cards, to the invitations for the gala, which will be mailed to all of last year’s entrants, nominees, and members of the industry in mid-March, to the program books which will be distributed both at the Awards event and at the NSS, and finally to the lobby display during the NSS. The theme will also guide the décor and activities for the gala, which has been moved to opening night of the National Stationery Show, Sunday, May 20th.

To enter the 24th Annual LOUIE Awards, for more information on attending the Awards gala on May 20th, or to become a GCA member, please visit www.greetingcard.org.

About the LOUIE Awards: Officially known as the International Greeting Card Awards Competition, the LOUIEs are named after Louis Prang, the German-born Boston lithographer credited with the birth of the U.S. Christmas card in the 1870s. The LOUIEs celebrate the art, editorial and design of greeting cards and reinforce the relevance of creating, sending and receiving greeting cards. Launched by the Greeting Card Association in 1988, the prestigious LOUIE Awards recognize the most outstanding cards marketed in the U.S. during the previous calendar year. The competition is open to all domestic and foreign greeting card publishers and attracts hundreds of entries annually. In addition to Awards Chair Katy Greenspan of Cardstore.com, serving on the LOUIE Committee this year are Strategic Chair Andy Meehan of Development Solutions Global; Patti Stracher, show manager of the National Stationery Show® (NSS); and Monika Brandrup, creative director of Up With Paper and this year&rs quo;s “shadow chair.” For more information, visit www.greetingcard.org , or find the LOUIEs on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LOUIEAwards, or on Twitter @LouieAwards.
