NY NOW Anticipates Robust Summer 2014 Edition

Expected sell-out participation from 2,800+ new, returning and expanding suppliers of leading home and lifestyle brands signals a robust summer 2014 edition of NY NOW™, The Market for Home + Lifestyle (formerly NYIGF®). Returning to its traditional five-day date pattern, the summer 2014 market will run Saturday, August 16, through Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal’s Pier 94.

NY NOW will feature 100,000 products in 400+ categories across its four signature collections: HOME includes Home Furnishings + Textiles, Tabletop + Gourmet Housewaresand Accent on Design®; LIFESTYLE showcases Baby + Child, Gift, Personal Accessories, and Personal Care + Wellness; HANDMADE separates artisans by process and provenance with Designer Maker and Global Design; and NEW! highlights market newcomers on Pier 94.

“There is a high level of enthusiasm for and interest in the summer Market, and we’re excited to showcase a wealth of both new and returning companies in all four Market Collections,” said Christian Falkenberg, NY NOW director and GLM senior vice president. “We are welcoming back a number of key vendors, and working with many of our current exhibitors to expand their exhibit space for this August.”

Notable newcomers and returning companies among the HOME Collection’s 1,100 exhibitors on Level Three of the Javits Center this August include Bella Notte Linens, Modern History, Natural Curiosities, Noir, Oliver Gal and Pine Cone Hill within Home Furnishings + Textiles; Arte Italica, Claude Dozorme Cutlery, Fusionbrands and Tea Forte within Tabletop + Gourmet Housewares; and Creative Danes/Menu, Donna Wilson and Stelton within Accent on Design®. These new and returning companies join industry-leading HOME Collection anchors: Atipico, Joseph Joseph, Lenox, Mariposa, Match, Michael Aram, Matouk, Mr. Brown/Julian Chichester, Pablo, Roost, Tom Dixon, Vagabond Vintage and many others.

On Level One of the Javits Center, the LIFETSYLE Collection’s 1300 exhibitors will include a wealth of newcomers and returning exhibitors, including: Kid Kusion, Lucy Darling, Mini Maniacs, SoYoung Inc., Swankie Blankie, The Daisy Baby, Wee Gallery and Zoli within Baby + Child; 1Canoe2 Letterpress, Blue Mountain Arts, Common Ground, High Intencity, Maison Chic, and Marc Tetro within Gift; Anjolie Ayurveda, La Lavande and Tatine Candles withinPersonal Care + Wellness; Anna Balkan Jewelry, Carrie Dunham, and SSD Jewelry withinPersonal Accessories.

While the bulk of the newcomers to NY NOW’s HANDMADE Collection will be announced in late April following jury review and selection of new applicants, a number of key artisans will return to the Market in August. Within HANDMADE Designer Maker, Lisa Neimeth Ceramics, Nelles Studio, Patrick Meyer Studio and Smartwork will rejoin current exhibitors like Chikahisa Studio, Lois Arnow Porcelain, Peg & Awl and Stinson Studios; and within HANDMADE Global Design, Barro En Mis Manos, Chopstick Art and Mushmina will return to the summer Market alongside Creative Women, MBare Ltd and Shupaca.

Beyond exhibits, a four-day slate of educational seminars and special events will be offered to complement market activities. More than 20 seminars will cover a range of topics, including color and design trends, importing, digital marketing and social media, visual merchandising marketing and other retail strategies. Sponsors and presenters include representatives from leading media outlest, as well as support from industry associations including ART (The Creative Home Furnishings Network), CRAFT (Craft Retailers & Artists for Tomorrow), Fashion Group International and IFDA (International Furnishings & Design Association).

Special events held in conjunction with the summer market will include Gifts and Decorative Accessories’ 63rd Annual Retailer Excellence Awards recognizing individual and retail achievement on Sunday, August 17; as well as NY NOW’s renowned “Night on Broadway,” featuring specially-priced tickets a popular Broadway musical on Tuesday, August 19. NY NOW will continue to showcase and reward product innovation with Best New Product Awards recognizing design excellence in four categories – Baby + Child, Gourmet Housewares, Home Textiles and Personal Care + Wellness. Popular voting will determine winners of favorite “green” products in the Eco Choice Awards, as well as “Best of HOME” and “Best of LIFESTYLE” Awards. In addition, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) NY Metro Chapter will present their “Best of the Best NY NOW Summer 2014 Awards” to select exhibitors in NY NOW’s HOME Collection; and select Accent on Design exhibitors will be eligible for both the Accent on Design® Awards and Bloggers’ Choice Awards.

For the third year in a row, NY NOW will preview key home 2014-15 design trend directions through its “Open House,” display, presented in partnership with One Kings Lane and Progressive Business Media publications. Other special displays include SustainAbility: design for a better world®, which spotlights eco-friendly and socially-responsible products and producers; Made in the USA, which highlights American products that are both handcrafted and commercially-produced; and the NY NOW NEW! Preview Display which features innovative and emerging resources from Pier 94.

Running concurrently with NY NOW, the fifth semi-annual edition of Artisan Resource™ will be held Saturday, August 16, through Tuesday, August 19, at Pier 94. This first-of-its-kind artisan production-sourcing event connects U.S.-based volume importers, direct import retailers and wholesalers with overseas artisan enterprises from more than 20 countries offering handmade resources, at export terms from country of origin.

The summer 2014 edition of NY NOW, the Market for Home + Lifestyle, will run Saturday, August 16, through Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at New York City’s Jacob K.
