Jamie Durie Chooses AmericasMart For Signature Collection American Debut

International television star and designer Jamie Durie selected AmericasMart® Atlanta for the American debut of his Jamie Durie Signature collection. The new showroom opened in AmericasMart’s Living. Outdoor/Indoor.® The Gardens.® collection at The Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishings Market® in July. In celebration of the new space, Durie gave an inspiring presentation “It’s Only Natural: Today’s Design Market Obsession with Nature” to Market buyers.

The collection already has made an impact at AmericasMart, winning the coveted Visual Display Award for outstanding showroom design for the July Market. The independent panel of judges lauded the space’s eye catching and refreshing design featuring “living walls” with fresh potted flowers and plants.

The Jamie Durie Signature Collection features a range of products for maximizing time alfresco. The design-driven line features items such as a modular outdoor sofa set, a contemporary hexagonal dining set, a bench with a planter pot integrated into the design, and a shelf that can be used horizontally or vertically. All of the products feature FSC certified timber, and are low maintenance, weather resistant and easy to assemble.

The Jamie Durie Signature collection is located on Building 2 Floor 9 at AmericasMart Atlanta. It is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and during home and gift Markets.

ABOUT JAMIE DURIE

International award winning designer & author Jamie Durie started his design practice 16 years ago in 1998. Since then he and his team at Durie Design have received over 33 international design awards with his latest design accolade received in May 2014 when he was awarded the New York Design Award for his interior dining chair titled, “The Tubular Chair.” The “Bungalow Armchair” in hand-woven leather was also a finalist. Durie and his design practice Durie Design, today in Los Angeles and Sydney, have worked on numerous commercial projects, hotels and resorts in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Dubai, Spain, the United States, Thailand and Australia.

Although the practice started in the field of landscape architecture, Durie Design has evolved today into a multi-disciplinary design practice in areas of architecture, interior architecture, landscape, and his greatest passion, furniture design. Durie’s first furniture collection was designed and created over a decade ago in 2003 and has since retailed in over 200 department stores throughout Australia. It continues to sell today in over 12 countries with his latest collection for renowned Milan-based Italian furniture manufacturer RIVA1920 launching in 2013. Since then the collection has doubled with the Elle Ecrit Desk being commissioned by all RIVA1920 USA retail outlets. He has recently completed designing the Sakura Bathtub for YTL Group in Singapore.

Durie and his team have created a unique design language and coined it ‘transterior’ and has become well known for creating seamless transitions between the indoors and out. He stands behind his philosophy of taking the outdoors in and the indoors out, and giving the client the ability of having a greater connection to nature in a sophisticated and carefully considered design environment even if furniture takes inspiration from nature.

Jamie is a committed environmentalist working with numerous organisations dedicated to conservation. In honour of his work over the last two decades, Jamie was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2013 for services to the environment and design, while in 2004, he received the Centenary Medal for services to the environment, television, and the community.

Author of ten best-selling books, including “The Outdoor Room,” “100 Gardens,” and “Edible Garden Design,” Jamie has hosted over 50 prime-time design television shows globally, airing in over 30 countries to millions of viewers. Jamie became a firm fixture in the United States when he was discovered by Oprah Winfrey in 2006, leading to a five-year contract with Oprah’s company, Harpo. In its fourth series, Jamie’s creation “The Outdoor Room“ airs on HGTV. He has won numerous awards for his television work; in the United States, including an Environmental Media Award for HGTV’s “Green Home;” in Australia, seven television Logie Awards one for Australia’s most popular talent and six consecutively for Australia’s most popular lifestyle show Backyard Blitz.

Today, Jamie continues to work on design TV projects with the A&E Network on the FYI Channel whilst doing what he loves to do, creating beautiful furniture designs for today, that nurture people with nature.
