Tiny, Victorian-style shop makes a big splash in EatonBy Theresa MyersGreeleyTribune.com

If someone would have asked Julie Danielson 10 years ago what she would be doing for the rest of her career, operating a successful tea room wouldn’t have even been a remote thought.

But here she is, at the close of 2010, owner and operator of Victoria’s Tiny Tea Room and Gift Shop, as well as Lavendar ‘n’ Lace homemade beauty supplies, in Eaton. The, business, much to Danielson’s continued surprise, has been a success, and demand for her English-style teas continues to grow, despite the recession.

“The tea business: That’s been our ace in the hole,” Danielson said.

In 2004, Danielson and her husband bought a small, slightly run-down house on U.S. 85 in the downtown district of Eaton. They remodeled the building to house their travel agency, as well as a small retail space for Danielson’s homemade lotions and soaps.

Danielson, who has a knack for decorating, made over the space with Victorian-era antiques, including a fireplace mantle that came from her mother in-law’s house, but that they once believe was in the home of Colorado Gov. Benjamin Eaton.

When someone saw the space, they suggested it would be perfect for a small tea room.
