Gadsen, AL – When Rebecca Duke interviewed for the position of curator at the Gadsden Museum of Art, she was surprised to find the museum didn’t have a gift shop. She pledged to start one if she was hired.

Four months later — just in time for holiday shopping — the museum has opened a gift shop that features items by local artists and others connected with the Metropolitan Museum of Art retail shop.

“I’ve worked in museums, and we’ve always had gift shops,” said Duke, who became curator Aug. 1. “You reach people through your gift shop, sometimes as weird as that is.”
