JPMA Summit Fosters Continued Growth For An Industry Passionate For Infant Safety

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. – The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), which represents 95% of the prenatal to preschool products industry, hosted a regulatory summit recently in Washington, D.C. to provide members and other industry participants with a comprehensive review of regulatory and legislative issues affecting the industry.

Highlights of the Summit included keynote addresses from Consumer Products Safety Commission Chairman Inez Tenenbaum and Toys “R” Us CEO Jerry Storch. In her address, Tenenbaum focused on how CPSC and JPMA can work together to create safer sleep environments for babies and shared her 2011 goal – “Year to Get Connected with CPSC.”

Additional highlights included presentations on The New Canadian Consumer Product Safety Act; Marketing to Moms; Defending Your Brand Reputation in a Viral World; and the culture and perspective of advocacy organizations from the Director of Product Safety and Senior Counsel for the Consumer Federation of America.

The summit concluded with a visit to Capitol Hill where attendees had a chance to meet their Congressional representatives and discuss how the CPSIA and the continuing climate of intense product safety scrutiny is affecting the livelihood of the juvenile products industry.

Longtime JPMA member and Summit Attendee, Richard White of Triboro Quilt Mfg. Corp. had this to say, “The summit was enjoyable–a great value. The content touched on many important aspects of our business. Product compliance is an important part of the juvenile products business and the presentations on CPSIA implementation, new or pending state legislation and the new law in Canada were all very worthwhile. I also appreciated the luncheon address by the CPSC Chairwoman to hear first-hand what she is focusing on in the coming year.”

JPMA gratefully acknowledges the Sponsors of the 2010 Summit: Stericycle/Expert Recall, SGS, ABC Kids Expo, and Schiff Hardin. We value the support of our industry partners and thank them for their continued commitment to JPMA and the juvenile products industry.

The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association is a national not-for-profit trade organization of more than 250 companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. JPMA exists to advance the interests, growth, and well-being of North American prenatal to preschool product manufacturers, importers, and distributors marketing under their own brands to consumers. It does so through advocacy, public relations, information sharing, product performance certification, and business development assistance conducted with appreciation for the needs of parents, children, and retailers.
