Merchants pleased with sales
One size didn’t necessarily fit all.
But gift cards proved to be a uniform solution for many Shoppers Drug Mart Christmas customers this year.
“Gift cards for me, were like a ‘wow,'” said SDM Store Manager Sandy Miller. “Gift cards were huge.”
From Miller’s perspective, the Christmas season started off ‘soft’, but came on ‘strong’ for the last two weeks.
“And quite successful overall,” she said. “Lots of support, there is a lot of choice for people on where to shop and they continue to support us, which is terrific.”
Miller felt a lack of snow had been a contributing factor to the flow of a Christmas season which peaked toward its end.
“I think it crept up on people, all of a sudden, Christmas was there.”
Boxing Day turned out to be typical at Shoppers Drug Mart as well, with people in early in the morning to get the deals.
“A busy, steady day for us.”
And throughout the season, beyond standard staples such as fragrances and cosmetics, a wide selection of gift cards proved to be hugely popular. They are a ‘nice easy choice,’ for people uncertain about what to buy for people, surmised Miller, as well as an option that gives those on the receiving end flexibility.
