Local toy shop makes the grade
Vancouver, BC — Two decades in operation, a recent business award and more room to play – Vernon Teach and Learn are acing the test on Business 101.
Owned by Lynella and Trevor Henke, Teach and Learn celebrated its 20th anniversary in May, and coupled with an expansion that has doubled their floor space to 5,000 square feet, 2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year.
Oh, and they also won Small Business of the Year at this year’s Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala, an honour they collected in 2007.
“We were excited because one you’ve won it once, I thought that was it,” said Lynella, who started Teach and Learn in 1990 with her mother, Mavis Jackson.
“They told us we were nominated for it this year but we thought we had no hope because we were tearing down walls and we had sawdust flying everywhere when they came to do the interview. So we both died of shock when we won it.”
The shop has a wide range of educational toys, teaching aids, arts and crafts supplies, books and reading material, and other educational essentials. Their learning-specific items draw a steady clientele from the school district, schools and teachers.
